About

Charms & Clovers is one of Betsoft’s most popular slot machines, which proves that there is a good reason why developers keep creating Irish luck themed slot machines. The theme is a standard one for the industry, relying on leprechauns and their treasures, but in the usual extra high quality that Betsoft is used to putting on the market with its slots. The game’s setup is not as standard, though, featuring 5+1 reels which have 4 symbols each. For that many reels and symbol positions, you’re getting just 40 active paylines, meaning that your combinations might not form as often as you’d imagine based on their number. It’s a slot machine which offers plenty of features to players, starting with the 6th bonus reel and the four bonus features it can bring you, and continuing with the wild symbols. Rewards of up to $50,000 appear to be available in the game.

Betting requirements

You’re not going to get the option to have fewer lines active, you’re stuck with the full number of 40, but there will be a choice when it comes to how many coins each line should get, as well as their value. The coin value goes from $0.01 to $1, and with up to 5 coins per line you end up spending at most $5 for one line and $200 for all of them. The smallest possible wager of Charms & Clovers is at $0.40, so it’s readily available to all players.

Theme & Design

If you’re after something unique and fun, then I’m afraid that Charms & Clovers only covers the latter. It’s an Irish based game, one which takes the luck element very seriously, and which uses the stories of this country for its background image and its symbols. The action takes place in a forest, in a place where the rainbow touches the ground supposedly, and we have the grinning leprechaun on the left side, while a half-buried treasure chest is shown on the right. The reels are the unusual bit about this game, with 5 main ones and a 6th bonus reel. The design quality is excellent, but that’s not surprising since Betsoft is well known for the 3D line of slots that they offer. They went with some non-related symbols, the poker cards, but they did put shamrocks all around them, so they made an effort there. The better symbols will have for your images of Bar Logos, Beer Steins, a blue lucky horseshoe, a pot filled with gold, a four leaf shamrock, a Golden 7, a rainbow and the leprechaun. The Wild Shamrock is the final symbol that you’re going to get. The 6th reel will also have its own special bonus symbols, in addition to the regular ones that can land there.

Special Features

Even though the first five reels are separated from the sixth one, their symbols can still be used together, and so the combinations will have anywhere from three to six symbols in them. The last reel has something extra, though, four bonus symbols which can be used to trigger just as many bonus features. The Wild Shamrock is available in the base game, as a replacement for regular symbols only, and it can even form combinations by itself, paying up to 10,000x if you have six on a line. As for the four features that can be triggered on the 6th reel, you need one of the four stacked bonus symbols to cover that reel entirely, to get what it has to offer. Money Wheel is a bonus feature that will give you just that, a wheel that spins and which triggers a cash prize, gives you access to another Super Wheel, or even to the Mega Wheel. The best outcome would be the Giant or the Colossal Jackpots, or at least the payouts of up to 100x the bet from Mega Wheel. Mega Symbol is another feature, which gives you a large symbol with the Leprechaun, covering 3x3 positions on the reels, for the duration of 8 free spins. With Pots of Gold, you’re playing a bonus feature which offers you 8 free spins, with an additional three wild symbols placed on the reels. Golden Bonus is the fourth bonus, a simple picking feature that lets you make a choice, and then rewards you for it, as much as 20x total bet.

Jackpot

We’re looking at a game with an average RTP of 96.30%, so even though you need up to six symbols to form to get the biggest rewards, it’s still going to pay well in the long run. The best payout will give you 50,000 coins through a regular combo, so up to $50,000. There are also the Colossal and Giant Jackpots to consider, obtained through certain bonus features.

Conclusion

Charms & Clovers might not bring a unique story in front of you, but its features and the gameplay experience is clearly quite different from nearly all other Irish themed slots. It’s fun and unusual, and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it based on that alone.
