Rook’s Revenge might be an Aztec themed slot machine, which typically is a boring topic since it’s quite common, but thanks to the impressive work done by Betsoft this is actually quite easily enjoyable. A 3D slot machine, Rook’s Revenge gives us a main character called Rook, as well as Aztec treasures, temples and idols. The action in Rook’s Revenge takes place on 25 lines, which are fixed. The game has a feature rich environment, relying on exploding symbols, on large multipliers, free spins, scatter symbols and wilds, so pretty much everything you could ask for. The regular wins will get up to $6,250, but with the possibility to get multipliers applied to them, of up to 15x in certain situations.
You may not get the choice to change how many lines you’re using in this game, you will always have 25 at your disposal, but at least you can pick the number of coins which will be used per line, as well as their value. You have up to 5 coins per line, or 125 coins total, with values of $0.02 to $0.50. The bets placed in this game will range from $0.50 to $62.50.
The action of Rook’s Revenge occurs next to an Aztec pyramid and temple, the kind of place you can see in Indiana Jones movies. The main character here is not an explorer, but an actual chief of the Aztecs, called Rook. You have him next to the reels, animated and entertaining. The reels are made out of blocks of stone, on which you will see various Aztec style representations of animals, gods and monsters from their culture. None of them are easily recognizable for us, but they look authentic and they certainly help with the Aztec theme. This is a 3D slot from Betsoft, part of an entire line-up of games that offer the highest quality designs on the market, on par in many cases with what Net Ent is offering in this area. There are no filler symbols in their slot machines, plus there are always animations involved, along with characters like Rook, which are doing their best to entertain you. Form winning combinations, and you will see him do a funny little dance for your benefit.
The slabs of stone which are piled on top of each other, the symbols of this slot, are going to explode if they manage to form combinations on one of the active lines. There will be empty positions as a result of this feature, and new symbols will come in and hopefully bring you a new win. Starting with the second explosion, there are multipliers applied to your consecutive wins, reaching 5x in the base game. This value is combined with the multiplier from the free spins, so you can reach a maximum of 15x this way in the game. A Golden Mask is getting the role of the symbol which you can use to trigger the free spins mode. You have these symbols on the first three reels, and they all need to be present and part of a winning combo on an active line, in order to be of use to you. The free spins get 3x multipliers in the first wins, and can reach 15x together with the multiplier from the exploding symbols. This symbol does not pay anything, but the wins you get from the free spins should make up for that. The wild symbol appears to show us an Aztec style question mark, made out of gold. This symbol is reserved for the middle three columns, and from those positions it can be a replacement for all others, even for the symbols that trigger the free spins. Unfortunately, since they’re not going to form their own combinations, they have no rewards to give you directly.
Normally, you can win prizes of up to 2,500x the line bet, so up to 12,500 coins. With a value of up to $0.50 per coins, that’s a reward of $6,250 that you can take home from Rook’s Revenge. With multipliers having the possibility of reaching values of up to 15x during free spins, rewards could potentially reach values of up to $93,750. Rook’s Revenge is a game with a high volatility, which can offer big rewards if your luck holds out. The theoretical RTP of 94.53% feels a bit low to me. Betsoft has some excellent games, with RTP of 96% to 97%, so Rook’s Revenge doesn’t look good by comparison.
Rook’s Revenge offers the usual high quality design that Betsoft creates for all its Slots3 titles, but you’re going to get from it a less interesting story and a smaller average RTP, so it’s not a game that I would recommend from their collection.
