About

For a game like Caesar’s Empire, there can only be one theme, and it is obviously one that is inspired by Caesar, the former emperor of Ancient Rome. RTG has created for us this slot machine, which has a bit of a dated look unfortunately, but also some advantages that should help it overcome some of the disadvantages. It’s not a great theme to go with, mostly because it has enough competition out there. Caesar’s Empire has a limited betting range, but also an average number of lines to use, only 20 being available for the players on 5x3 reels. Among the rewards, RTG has included a random progressive jackpot, as well as a payout of up to 7,500x, which comes directly from the game. Other advantages that I would count here include the free games, the scatter symbols and the wilds with their tripled wins.

Betting requirements

You may change two things about the bets offered in Caesar’s Empire. One of them is the number of lines that will be used. You can have 1 to 20 active lines each round. Second, you decide on the line bet, and here you will use a range of $0.01 to $0.25. The overall betting range, for 20 active lines, will be from $0.20 to $5. As you can easily see, it’s not a game that high rollers will get excited about, not with that kind of bet and reward obviously.

Theme & Design

We’re looking at a game with a theme based on Ancient Rome and on some of its better known rulers. Caesar was obviously one of those well known characters of this empire, while another one was Cleopatra, the queen of the Egyptians. The Coliseum is used as the backdrop in the game, with basic yellow reels in the front and with golden borders around them. I’m not a fan of the theme since I’ve seen it plenty of times before, and Caesar’s Empire doesn’t bring anything new to the genre. You have Caesar on a gold coin, while Cleopatra is present as a real person in one of the major symbols. Others that you see on the reels include the Coliseum as a scatter, along with Soldier Helmets, Sword & Shield, a fruit bowl and some boring Royals (9 to A). As I’ve mentioned already, it’s not a new design, and the look is a dated one. It clearly doesn’t look like something that was released recently, and it could do with an update. I’m not happy about having almost half of the symbols in the form of ugly poker cards either, especially with the number of times that you see them on the reels (low paying symbols appear more often). Overall, I feel like Caesar’s Empire fails to impress and I wouldn’t give it a passing grade for this part of the experience.

Special Features

Caesar’s Empire doesn’t try to innovate, but at least it has a decent collection of features in place. One of them is going to come via the wild symbol, the Caesar Coin. What’s unusual about this symbol is that it appears only on the first four reels, yet it is allowed to form a combination by itself. You can have combos of up to four wilds, and they will pay up to 2,500x. Otherwise, the wilds are useful because they will act as replacements and they will also triple any wins you get thanks to them. There is also the Coliseum scatter to consider, a symbol that you get rewards from just based on the number of times that it appears during the same round. Land two to five such symbols and you get rewards ranging from 1x to 100x the wager. The free spins require both feature symbols to contribute, in order to be triggered. You need to have 1 or more Caesar Coins present, while the Coliseum scatter is on the 5th reel. The reward will consist of 10 free spins, as well as 2x multipliers for the prizes. Caesar is allowed on reel 5 as well, as a wild, during the free spins. The Coliseum scatters are transformed into wilds or into Cleopatra high paying symbols. For each Caesar that you get to show up, you win an additional 5 free spins.

Jackpot

One possible big reward in this game will come from the random progressive jackpot, but you don’t have any control over that, it’s just a matter of luck. The same can be said about the regular combinations, which can pay up to 7,500x in the base game, or 15,000x during free spins (in both cases with wilds participating), but at least you can see what triggered them there. The cash value can go up to $3,750.

Conclusion

Caesar’s Empire has those interesting features to make itself an attractive option, but the design and the theme don’t help it much.
