About

Huangdi: The Yellow Emperor

We’ve all seen Chinese themed slot machines, quite a few of them being released lately, and they all tend to be the same, just like the ones that are inspired by Ancient Egypt or by Ireland, among others. Huangdi: The Yellow Emperor is a different type of Chinese themed slot though, one that looks at the legends from China and at their history. Huangdi, also known as The Yellow Emperor, is an important part of their history, and so I’m glad that we’re seeing a slot machine based on him. As for what the game has to offer, you are seeing 25 pay lines inside, with a generous betting range that can be turned into rewards of up to $125,000. Among the features that were implemented, you will discover that they used scatter icons, free spins, regular and stacked wilds, plus stacked symbols that can trigger an expansion on other reels.

Betting **requirements**

You’re always going have to use 25 lines in Huangdi, and they will require a minimum bet of 25 coins as a result. The bets can use up to 250 coins though, if necessary, with up to 10 coins chosen for each line. The coin size is another way to increase the bet significantly, the maximum possible denominations being at $5. With numbers like those, you can calculate that the bets reach top values of $50 per line, or $1,250 per spin.

Theme & Design

We have a theme here that doesn’t rely on classic Chinese symbols, for which I’m grateful. Instead, the focus is on a major character from the history of China, on Huangdi, also known under names like Yellow Emperor, Yellow Lord or Yellow God. He’s basically a deity in the religion of China, a legendary ruler of the country. He is thought to be the inventor of several objects, and we see some of them on the reels, as symbols that you’re not likely to encounter anywhere else right now. The theme choice is one that I’m happy with, even though it enters a relatively crowded field of Chinese slots. It has enough uniqueness in it. As for the design that the game offers, it is quite attractive if we consider the symbols which are themed, or the background image. We get mountains from China with temples for the background, while on the reels we seem to have Huangdi, a musical instrument, a sword and a chest. Hand painted Royals (poker cards) fill up the symbol quota.

Special Features

There is one aspect of the game that I wouldn’t expect to find anywhere else easily, and that’s the presence of stacked symbols on reel 1, which can turn symbols from other reels into expanding variants. High paying symbols are capable of occupying reel 1, since they come stacked on that column. If they do that, then the regular symbols of that type, from the other four reels, will be turned into expanding symbols and the reels will be filled by them. The outcome can be the formation of 25 winning combinations at the same time, so obviously the potential is huge for it. If you get the feature during free spins, then you can get the wilds to expand as well. Speaking of those wilds, they’ve went with a game logo for their image. The symbols are going to be replacements for almost all other symbols which are participating in a new winning combination, though not for Dragon scatters. They will also form combinations, and you can expect up to 250x in payouts if you have all five on one line. A Golden Dragon symbol, the one symbol that you can find in a lot of other Chinese themed titles, is the chosen scatter. The better rewards will come through these symbols, even the top jackpot, and it will also be responsible for the start of the free spins. Getting 3 to 5 Dragons in view will bring you 15 free spins, where the wild symbol is stacked on reel 1.

Jackpot

By far, the best reward you can land in this game will come via the scatter symbol, which can pay up to $125,000, or 100 times the bet. However, if you keep in mind the possibility of triggering up to 25 winning combinations at the same time (stacked plus expanding symbols), the biggest prize that you could be going home with would be at $312,500, during free spins. We’ve found out the RTP for the game, and based on the information we have it is at 96.2%, making it one of the decent titles that you can play these days.

Conclusion

With a good average Return to Player, with a nicely chosen theme, as well as graphics and features that are better than average, I think that Huangdi is worth taking a chance on.
